Usually, backdrop lighting or "cyc-work"
is achieved with abstract artwork. In this project we needed to create
scenic backdrops with light. These backdrops were projected onto a scrim
downstage of the cyc. We solved the problem by using 6 of the VL6B's as the
"slide projectors." We made "mono" gobos for the units. Paula Millstone of
VLPS was instrumental in getting the artwork created.
By using the VL6B's for the sketches,
it gave me the ability to cross fade seamlessly from the VL7's that provided
cyc design for the rest of the meeting. Thus no fading to black to hide the
roll of the gobo.
